Recipe for Split Pea Soup

2 cups split peas
5 cups water
1 large onion, diced
2 - 3 carrots, chopped
2 cloves garlic, diced
1 tsp. ground marjoram
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp. chipotle powder
2 T veggie broth powder

Rinse peas. Put peas in a large pot with water. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for about 45 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add more water during cooking if needed.

Add vegetables and herbs to the pot and simmer for another 15 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Soup should be thick.
