Ply-Split Square for the Violet Protest
'Waffle Checkerboard' by Linda Hendrickson (2021)

I made 2-ply, 2-color cords with 5/2 perle cotton, 8 strands/ply, 15% shrinkage during IOT. To make the square, I used a size 8 double-pointed gripfid, and worked from the center to the edges.

The "waffle" texture is the result of leaving a full twist between the splittings, which keeps one color on top and the other on the bottom. Leaving a half-twist will switch the colors.
