Ply-Split Basket Raffia by Linda Hendrickson
I made this ply-split basket from real raffia (Raphia farinifera) plant fiber. It takes time to make cords from raffia, since the strands of the plant fiber are all different widths and lengths, and it is challenging to get the tension right. Once made, the cords are easy to use. The basket is 9" across at the top, and 3" high. September 2000.
The beginning of this basket, shown here, is the five-pointed star design that I learned from a basket that Jim Pochert gave me at Convergence 2000.
