Ply-Split Braid on a Keyring: Zig-Zag using Two-Color Cords

Learn the techniques of ply-split braiding by making this braid on a keyring. To order a kit for this braid with cords and instructions with step-by-step photos, please see details on my Kits for Ply-Split Braids and Ornaments page.

This Ply-Split Zig-Zag using Two-Color Cords is a non-traditional ply-split design by Peter Collingwood. The shape is shown on Plate 38 of his book The Techniques of Ply-Split Braiding. The structure is SCOT (single-course oblique twining), and the stripe pattern is created by splitting the 2-color cords in a specific way. When the cords are split correctly, stripes are diagonal to the selvedge on the front, and parallel to the selvedge on the back.
