POT/SCOT designs from a cotton ply-split camel girth
in the collection of Errol Pires, Ahmedabad, India

When Errol Pires visited Portland in 2004, he kindly allowed me to make scans of the designs on a beautiful cotton camel girth. Click on any image for a larger view.

An expert girth maker was judged by the number of different patterns he could make in a single belt. This one is surely from the hands of an expert, someone who has been making girths for many years. The images above show all of the designs in the order they appear on the girth, and you can see how each pattern changes to the next one.
